Talking to a counsellor or psychologist can be helpful for any child or young person who is experiencing difficulties. It is important that the Counsellor or Psychologist has experience of working with young people and appropriate training. All of our counsellors who are listed here have done specialist training and have experience of working with children and young people. Counselling can be incredibly supportive for children and young people and provide a safe and confidential space where they can talk and work through any problems they are having.

Counselling or Psychology is for any child or young person that is experiencing problems.
What issues or problems are suited to Counselling or Psychology for Children and Young People?
It can help with a wide range of issues, for example:
- Bonding and attachment
- Developmental Issues
- Physical and Emotional abuse
- Low self esteem
- behavioural problems
- Family issues
- Anger issues
- sexual and gender issues body image and identity
- Separation anxiety and other childhood fears
- starting nursery / school and getting on with siblings and peers.
There doesn’t always need to be a specific ‘issue’. Someone may have a sense or feel that some support would be helpful.
How many sessions will I have?
This will be up to the client, and will be discussed between the therapist and client or parent/carer if appropriate.
Counsellors and Psychologists who work with Children and Young People at Southside Counselling:
Dee works as with children and young people, of all ages, as a counsellor. She can incorporate integrative therapies such as play, narrative and creative techniques
Rachel is qualified to work with children and young people and is DBS approved. She works with children of 5 years old and upwards.
Lorna Henderson: Psychodynamic Counsellor (12-18 year olds)
Lorna has almost thirty years experience as Pupil Support Manager(guidance teacher). She currently works in a school as a one to one support. Lorna works with children and Young People of 12 to 18 years old.
Lindsey has over twenty years of experience of working as clinical psychologist with children, young people. As with all her clinical work, Lindsey’s approach to working with children and young people is collaborative, creative and, wherever possible, playful.
Lindsey works with children and families from new babies and working with parents to adolescents and young adults.
Paul works with young people aged 16 and above.
