What is Parent and Carer Support ?
Parent and Carer support offers parents and carers a safe, understanding space to explore both the challenges and joys of caring for children or young people. It’s a place to pause, reflect, and find ways to look after yourself as well as those you care for.
Working with a qualified and experienced therapist, you’ll have the opportunity to process some of the complex emotions that parenting can bring up. Therapists may also offer practical strategies and insights to help you navigate daily challenges, alongside emotional support and understanding.
Who is it for?
This support is for parents, carers, and guardians who want to better understand themselves and the children or young people they care for. You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or simply looking for new ways to connect and communicate. Whatever your situation, you’ll be met with empathy and understanding.
Support is open to all parents carers and guardians — including those of neurodivergent children, care-experienced children, children or young people struggling with school, or those who have experienced trauma or challenging events. We also welcome parents and carers of LGBT+ young people, or those exploring questions of identity, who may want a supportive space to understand and respond to their child’s experiences with compassion. Whatever your circumstances, you are welcome.
What problems and issues can we help with?
- Identifying and nurturing your needs and values
- Feeling understood by people who “get it”
- Building confidence and feeling good enough as a parent or carer
- Staying calm when faced with challenging behaviours
- Managing physical or verbal aggression
- Strengthening your connection with your child
- Creating a calmer, more enjoyable family life
How many sessions will I have?
The number of sessions varies depending on your needs and what you hope to get from the support. Some parents and carers find that a few sessions help them make the changes they’re looking for, while others choose to continue for longer. You will discuss with your therapist what feels right for you and agree together on the pace and number of sessions that best suit your situation.
