There are several types of Counselling & Therapy

Each type of therapy is based on different ideas about our development as humans, where our psychological problems or physical symptoms may have come from and the best way to use counselling to help to resolve them. Some counsellors or therapists will encourage you to be proactive in deciding what you wish to discuss in your session and will support you in realising that you are far more capable and resourceful than you may feel. Others may be more directive and will teach you strategies for changing your beliefs and behaviour by, for example, giving you homework exercises.
