About Johanna

Johanna is an experienced Clinical Psychologist who can offer a safe place to think about and clarify your difficulties and explore alternative and positive ways to address these.

We all experience negative emotions and distress at some point in our life. Sometimes it may be difficult to recover. Speaking to a psychologist can help you to understand your emotions and start to recognise patterns and discover new ways of dealing with difficulties.

She is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with over twenty-five years’ experience in the NHS, working with adult clients presenting with a wide range of psychological difficulties. From 2005 to 2017, she was a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and worked in different settings with clients who had moderate to severe difficulties and also with clients who had short-term problems. Previous specialisms have included Psychosis, Trauma and leading Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy groups.

This background has given Johanna a breadth of experience and she can offer a collaborative, individualised psychological therapy service to help reduce distress and enhance well-being. Therapeutic approaches include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Compassion Focused therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

Treatment is highly individualised and collaborative, and the therapy is adapted to your personal needs. Johanna is committed to helping people find a creative and positive way of moving forward.

Professional Memberships

Johanna qualified as a Clinical Psychologist at the University of Leiden (Netherlands). She was awarded a statement of equivalence by BPS. She has worked in NHS mental health services in Glasgow and previously in Edinburgh, Cumbria, Birmingham and Essex. She is also a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and works in accordance with their code of practice. She is registered with and regulated by the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council). Her HCPC registration number is PYL 20129
