5,000 year-old stone balls, which are the very size and shape of modern self-massage balls have been found at Skara Brae in the Orkney Islands. The presence of these balls encourages me to believe that we have been working on the body for thousands of years. Every ancient culture has its own massage therapy style and in modern Britain this mode of therapy has become very popular over the last couple of decades.
Stretching, releasing soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia and realigning and mobilising joints can make such a huge difference to your mobility and how you feel in your body.
How does Musculo-Skeletal Realignment work?
All the tissues and cells in the body need a good blood supply to be vital and healthy. The cells also need to be able to eliminate waste products to be strong, supple and flexible. These two elements can be compromised by injuries, past or present, by doing office work or by being sedentary. Much about modern life-style compromises our body’s ability to maintain optimum health.
Musculo-skeletal realignment works well with nutritional therapy, acupuncture, counselling and herbal medicine. It helps the body to become more efficient and to move more freely. It has been likened to getting a younger body at any age. Feeling good in your body, immediately lifts your mood and helps you to see life through new eyes.
Conditions that may benefit from Musculo-Skeletal Realignment:
- Pain relief, muscular & skeletal pain, arthritis
- Back pain, lower back pain, stiff neck and shoulders
- Migraines & headaches
- Sleep problems
- Tension, stress and feelings of anxiety
- Past or present injuries
- Rehabilitation after injury, surgery or being sedentary
- If you want to speed up your progress and recovery after athletic training
- Slow down the ageing process
How many sessions will I have?
This will depend on your symptoms. Generally, your therapist will suggest coming for 1 to 3 sessions initially to fine tune and make the changes your body is able to do at a comfortable manner. After this, you may be able to maintain your current lifestyle, or you may still have health goals you would like to address. Usually your treatments occur every month and then can spread out to every 2-4 months as your symptoms improve. Your therapist will talk to you about this and will work with you in a way that suits your and your circumstances. Some people choose to come on a regular basis, every 2-4 weeks to maintain good health and flexibility. Others choose to come once every 3-6 months for a check-up.
