Transactional Analysis (TA) was founded in the 1950s and 1960s by Eric Berne and has progressed considerably throughout the world.  TA is widely used by Psychotherapists and Counsellors and is also used effectively for Organisations and Educational Settings.

‘Transactional Analysis is a theory of personality and a systematic psychotherapy for personal growth and personal change’ (ITAA)

How does Transactional Analysis work?

One of the main models in TA is the ego state model – Parent, Adult and Child.  Internal dialogue and conflicts can be understood using this theory and communication between people can be analysed and improved using this method.  Problematic relationship patterns can be analysed using Game Analysis, and examined for their relationship to an individual’s Life Script.  Life Script is the unconscious life plan we write for ourselves when we are young, to make sense of the world, other people and ourselves.   TA is used to understand how problems arise and to work with the client to seek to resolve limiting aspects of their Life Script.

Who is Transactional Analysis suitable for?

Transactional Analysis is suitable for adults and couples for a wide range of issues. If you’re struggling with a particular area and it’s not on the list below, that’s ok, please call to discuss.

You may be feeling that you have felt a particular way for a long time and want to explore your feelings in a safe and calm space. Speaking to a counsellor who is not family or friends can help us understand what we are feeling and change unhelpful patterns of behaviour which can enrich our relationships.
